The 1910 official city map of Savannah — drawn by City Engineer John W. Howard — shows a plantation east of the historic district near the Savannah River. It is labeled Twickenham Plantation.
The 1929 Savannah city map confirms it again. Same location. Same name.
No published history of Savannah mentions Twickenham Plantation. Not the Georgia Historical Society. Not the New Georgia Encyclopedia. Not any tour guide, historical marker, or academic paper that DEED has been able to locate.
The owner is unknown. The history of the plantation — who owned it, who was enslaved there, when it was established, what became of it — is unknown. The 1860 slave schedule for eastern Chatham County has not yet been searched. This is potentially entirely original research. DEED found it on the map. The research into who owned it and what happened there is ongoing.
